Getting started.

Set up Askbridge on your website in about half an hour, from sign-up to your first answered question.

Askbridge answers your website visitors from your own content and hands the conversation to someone on your team when it should. This guide takes you from a new account to a working widget.

Before you start

You need:

  • the address of your website (for example https://www.harbourlettings.co.uk)
  • access to your website's settings or theme, so you can add one line of code (or someone who can)
  • ten minutes to check a few answers

You do not need a card. The 14-day trial gives you the Growth plan with 150 AI conversations.

1. Create your account and workspace

  1. Go to Start free trial and enter your name, work email and a password.
  2. Confirm your email address from the message we send you.
  3. Enter your business name. This creates your workspace: everything for your business (knowledge, conversations, team) lives inside it.

The person who creates the workspace is its owner. You can invite the rest of your team later. See Inviting your team and roles.

2. Follow the set-up steps

After sign-up, the set-up wizard takes you through four steps: Your knowledge (read your website, import a Word document with AI, or write a few FAQs), Look and feel, Install and Try it. You can leave and come back; it carries on where you stopped, and the overview shows a Finish setting up checklist until everything is done.

  • Your knowledge: enter your website address. Askbridge reads your pages, following your sitemap and your robots.txt rules. A small site takes a few minutes. See Adding your website. If some answers are not on your website (opening hours, prices, policies), add FAQs or upload files.
  • Look and feel: your colour, greeting and launcher. See Customising the widget.
  • Install: copy the snippet into your website. See Installing the widget.
  • Try it: ask a question as a visitor would.

3. Check the answers

Open Knowledge, Test a question and ask the questions your customers ask most. For each answer, look at:

  • the sources: numbered links under the answer show which page or document it came from
  • the wording: is it right, and would you say it that way?
  • the gaps: if Askbridge says it cannot find something, add an FAQ and ask again

Read How answers work to understand why Askbridge sometimes offers a person instead of answering.

4. Get ready for hand-overs

Make sure at least one person will see new conversations:

  • set your opening hours on the Widget page, Availability tab
  • turn on notifications (email, and browser notifications on your computer or phone)
  • mark yourself available at the bottom of the menu when you are at work

Checklist

  • Website added and pages read
  • Ten common questions checked, gaps filled with FAQs
  • Colours, greeting and logo set
  • Snippet installed, and the Installation tab says Installed after a visitor chats from your site
  • Opening hours set and notifications on
  • A line added to your privacy notice: see Privacy and your visitors' data
