Customising the widget.
Change the greeting, suggested questions, colour, logo, launcher, position and opening hours in the widget editor.
You can make the chat look like part of your website. The AI label and the accessibility features stay the same, so visitors always know what they are talking to. Owners and admins can change the widget.
Where to change it
Open Widget in the menu. The settings are in four tabs beside a preview: Appearance, Messages (the greeting and suggested questions), Availability (opening hours) and Installation (the snippet and where the chat may load). If you have more than one website, choose it under Website first.
Each section has its own save button (for example Save greeting) and Cancel changes, and says whether it has unsaved changes, is saving, is saved or could not be saved. Saving one section never saves or discards another, so you can finish the greeting while leaving an unfinished list of questions for later.
The preview shows your unsaved edits straight away. When you have unsaved changes, you can switch the preview to Saved to see what visitors see now. If you try to leave the page with unsaved changes, Askbridge asks first.
If someone else on your team saved the same section after you opened the page, saving tells you so. Choose Load the saved version to see their change (your edits to that section are discarded; other sections keep theirs), or Keep my edits and save again to replace it.
When visitors see a change
A saved change applies to every page that loads the chat after you save; you do not need to change the snippet. A visitor who already has your website open picks it up the next time they open the chat, at most a minute after you saved. Their conversation is never cleared by a settings change.
Change the greeting
- Open Widget, then the Messages tab.
- Under Greeting, select the pencil and write the first message visitors see when they open the chat (up to 400 characters).
- Choose Save greeting.
The eraser clears the greeting so you can start again, but the chat always opens with a greeting, so you cannot save it empty: write a new one or choose Reset to default, which puts back the standard greeting.
A good greeting says it is an AI assistant, says what it can help with, and says a person is available. For example: "Hello, I'm the Harbour Lettings AI assistant. I can answer questions about renting with us, or get someone from the team."
Suggested questions
On the Messages tab, add up to 4 Suggested questions. They show as buttons under the greeting until the visitor asks something.
Add a question with Add question; edit or delete one with the pencil and bin beside it. Edits change the list on the page only: choose Save questions to publish them. The same question cannot appear twice, and once you have 4, delete one to add another. Saving an empty list removes the suggestions from the chat.
Appearance
| Setting | Where | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Display name and Logo URL | Appearance, Brand | The name and square image in the chat header; the logo is also shown on the round launcher button. Without a logo, the header uses your initials and the launcher shows a chat icon. |
| Accent colour | Appearance, Colour | Colour of the launcher, buttons and visitor messages. Pick a suggested colour or enter a hex code; colours that are hard to read with white text are flagged. |
| Launcher label | Appearance, Launcher | Up to 40 characters, shown when a visitor points at the round launcher or tabs to it. Screen readers always read it. On phones and tablets the launcher stays round and one tap opens the chat. |
| Position on the page | Appearance, Launcher | Bottom left or bottom right. |
| Show "Powered by Askbridge" | Appearance, Launcher | Can be hidden on a paid Growth or Scale plan. It stays on during the free trial. |
Choose Save appearance when you are done.
The widget meets WCAG 2.2 AA. If the colour you choose does not have enough contrast with white text (a ratio of at least 4.5 to 1), Askbridge suggests the nearest colour that does. This keeps the widget readable for everyone, including people with low vision.
Opening hours
On the Availability tab, set the days and the Opens and Closes times when a person from your team can join a conversation, and the time zone for them, then choose Save opening hours. During opening hours, when someone on the team is available, visitors who ask for a person are handed to them. Outside them, visitors are offered a message form instead.
Telling visitors it is AI
The chat always labels the assistant's replies "AI assistant" and shows the sources each answer comes from, so visitors can check it. These labels are fixed. Your privacy notice is in the chat's menu and in its forms.
More than one website
On Growth (3 websites) and Scale (10 websites), each website has its own snippet, theme, greeting and allowed addresses, and shares your workspace's knowledge and team.
Installation
The Installation tab has the snippet and the allowed websites. See Installing the widget.
