AskbridgeBot

The crawler that reads websites for Askbridge.

If you saw AskbridgeBot in your server logs, a business using Askbridge added your website as a knowledge source, or is checking that a website belongs to them.

What it does.

AskbridgeBot identifies itself as AskbridgeBot/1.0 (+https://askbridge.vitalos.co.uk/bot). It reads public pages so a business’s chat assistant can answer questions from them, and it fetches one page or one small file to confirm that a business controls a website.

  • It follows robots.txt, including rules for AskbridgeBot by name.
  • It reads at most two pages at a time and stays on the website it was given.
  • It does not log in, submit forms or run your page’s JavaScript.
  • Answers to visitors use a website’s pages only after the business has proved it controls that website. Until then it reads at most 25 pages.

Stop or limit it.

Add these lines to your robots.txt to stop AskbridgeBot reading your website:

User-agent: AskbridgeBot
Disallow: /

Or disallow only some paths, for example Disallow: /private/. Changes apply to the next crawl.

Report misuse.

If AskbridgeBot is misbehaving, or an Askbridge chat is pretending to be your business, email support@vitalos.co.uk with your website address and what you saw. Visitors can also choose Report this chat in the chat itself. Askbridge is run by Vitalos Technologies.
